FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Synchronica Launches SyncML Gateway for Microsoft Exchange

New Solution for The First Time, Provides Wireless Synchronization of Exchange Servers Without Plug-Ins or Adaptors

BERLIN, GERMANY - October 5, 2004 (INB) -- Synchronica announced today the immediate availability of the Synchronica SyncML Gateway for Microsoft Exchange, providing over-the-air synchronization of Microsoft Exchange with mobile phones from Nokia, SonyEricsson and Siemens.

Until now, most users of Microsoft's popular Exchange software have been unable to remotely synchronize their Nokia, SonyEricsson and Siemens mobile phones, and instead were forced to use cumbersome cable-based synchronization software. However, in corporate support, sales and management, appointments often change while out of the office and thus overlapped and missed appointments, are still part of the corporate life.

This is where the Synchronica SyncML Gateway adds the missing link between Microsoft Exchange and mobile phones. With the Synchronica SyncML Gateway, users can remotely synchronize their mobile phone to get access to corporate Email, calendar, contacts and tasks - wherever they are, using the wireless network. Because most mobile phones today already ship with a SyncML client built-in, synchronization works instantly and without additional software installation.

By opening Microsoft Exchange to the industry standard SyncML, the Synchronica SyncML Gateway adds the missing wireless link between Microsoft Exchange and the standards-dominated mobile phone industry. "Microsoft works well with Microsoft, and its ActiveSync, seamlessly synchronizes a PocketPC, PDA or Microsoft Smartphone, even over-the-air. However, if you want to remotely synchronize your SyncML-enabled mobile phone from Nokia, SonyEricsson or Siemens, Microsoft doesn't do that," said Carsten Brinkschulte, founder and CEO of Synchronica.

The Synchronica SyncML Gateway is offered in two versions. The corporate version is installed behind the firewall providing wireless SyncML synchronization for corporate users. End-to-end security is provided with strong SSL encryption protecting the wireless communication. Licensed at very aggressive prices, the Synchronica SyncML Gateway offers a cost-effective, standards-based solution for wireless Email and groupware access.

The operator version is deployed in the datacenter of the mobile operator providing a unique "Gateway" synchronizing the corporate Exchange accounts of business users. Unlike other solutions, the Synchronica SyncML Gateway does not require a firewall reconfiguration or installation of a connector behind the firewall which have been proven to hinder sales of those solutions. Instead, it uses a secure HTTP/S connection to remotely access corporate Exchange accounts, a standard feature of Microsoft Exchange.

"The Synchronica SyncML Gateway offers a unique selling proposition for mobile operators. For the first time, revenue- generating mobile data synchronization can be sold directly to business users with effective one-to-many mass-marketing and without having to convince their IT departments to install those unloved adaptors," said Nicole Meissner, VP Marketing & Communications at Synchronica.

The Synchronica SyncML Gateway was developed as a joint venture between Synchronica and Ergon Informatik AG, a leading Swiss software engineering company. Ergon contributed a highly skilled engineering team while Synchronica provided the technical architecture and is responsible for marketing and sales of the product. "We are excited about the product launch with Synchronica underlining our leading position in the wireless sector," said Patrick Burkhalter, CEO of Ergon Informatik AG.

The Synchronica SyncML Gateway will be shown live at the Systems tradeshow from 18-20th October in Munich, Germany at the booth of Sun Microsystems, Hall B2 Booth B2.425 (IT-Security Area). A live demo is available immediately online at http://www.synchronica.com. Users can simply register their corporate Exchange accounts and instantly synchronize their SyncML-enabled mobile phone over-the-air.
